Saturday, October 20 | 10am-3pm

(Signup Deadline: October 13)

$90 = $55 Tuition + $35 for knives

Teacher: Ian Trudy

Welcome to the wonderful world of slöjd!

Learn the fundamentals of carving creative and unique spoons that are sure to be cherished by all who use them. Class will cover material selection and wood related considerations, safety, tools and sharpening, techniques and tricks, and finishing. In short, you should leave with everything you need to know to start your own creative journey.

There is a class materials fee of $35 to cover a hook knife and a straight slöjd knife for students and all other materials, wood, and sharpening equipment will be provided. However, if students prefer to purchase their own straight slöjd knife and hook knife the fee shall be waived. I personally suggest looking at Morakniv or Beavercraft knives, both found on These make good beginner knives and aren’t too expensive. Both are pictured.

For $15 a catered lunch by Cafe Nomad will be provided, payable on the day of class. This includes a sandwich, chips, pickle and a cookie. We will have a variety of beverages to choose from as well. Please specify your food preferences during the next step.
