July 8-12 | 9am-12pm |

Ages 8+

Teacher: Kim Hamlin (and guests)

Get ready for a creative, crafty week filled with fibery goodness! We’’l experiment with all kinds of fiber crafts… felting, weaving, sewing, embroidery, eco-printing and more! We will spend the last day decorating (aka yarn bombing) the town square for the Norway Arts Festival.

Monday: We’ll layer wisps of wool, silk and yarn and learn how to felt them with soapy water. In the second half of class we’ll try out some weaving on a handmade cardboard loom. Once kids are comfortable with the weaving technique, they can try weaving on our larger loom throughout the week!

Tuesday: In the first half of class we will learn to dye fabric using a technique called Eco-printing. We will press flowers and leaves into the fabric and then wrap them tightly into bundles and steam them. While our fabric is steaming, students will learn to do some needle felting!

Wednesday: All about that floss… no, not the dance, embroidery floss! Learn to make toothpick dolls and friendship bracelets! During the second half of class, students can continue working on dolls/bracelets or learn to stitch their felted swatch from Monday into a little wallet/pouch.

Thursday: Students will work together to creating a few large felted pieces for the Art Festival. They will take turns felting these pieces throughout the rest of classl. Students not involved in felting may use their time to finish a project from the previous day or do some weaving on the community loom.

Friday: We will take our art work to the street and use it to decorate the town for the Norway Arts Festival! In addition to using our own felted work, students will learn how to stitch together knit/crochet samples from Fiber & Vine and hang them on fences, trees, benches, etc.

Each day we will take a little break for a snack, a walk, or both. Students should bring a water bottle and a snack or two to every class. All other supplies will be provided.
