The Western Foothills Wrap is a light and breezy accessory, perfect for wearing (or knitting) as the temperature rises. It uses one of my all-time favorite yarns from Manos del Uruguay called Fino, a lovely blend of merino wool and silk. I cannot praise this yarn enough! I love the way the yarn feels in my hand as I work and the finished fabric is just divine! If you haven’t worked with the yarn before, I highly recommend it.

Materials:

2 skeins Manos del Uruguay Fino (70% merino wool, 30% silk; 490 yards) in color Crystal Goblet. Or 980 yards of fingering weight yarn with lots of drape.

Gauge:

Working gauge: 23 stitches = 4” in stockinette stitch.

Blocked gauge: 17 stitches = 4” in stockinette stitch.

Needles:

US #4 (3.5mm) 40-48” circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge. I’m an incredibly loose knitter, so I would recommend most knitters try a gauge swatch using a US #5 or #6 first.

If your goal is to complete more projects, the key is to pick the right pattern and materials to keep you inspired. That’s where this pattern comes in! It’s amazing how a simple combination of knit and purl stitches can be so striking, yet virtually mindless to knit. The yarns used are so buttery soft, it’s hard to put the project down. Cast on Friday night and you might be able to wear it on Sunday!

We love adding mohair to our projects for the added fluff, warmth, and color! Boy oh boy is this a fun color experiment! Rather than pairing two colors that match exactly, we’ve picked colors that push, pull and play with each other. Bright orange mohair mellows a shocking pink, magenta electrifies maroon, and sea salt boosts a natural white. Your cowl will seem to glow from within, no matter what color you choose, and everyone you meet will probably want one!

• Finished Measurements: 16” tall and 40” around.

• Gauge: 14 stitches = 4” in stitch pattern after blocking. Exact gauge is not crucial for this project!

• Needles: US #10 29-32” circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge. Some knitters may opt to use a size US #9 or #10.5.

• Stitch marker, tapestry needle.

Don’t worry, this cowl doesn’t take 24 hours to knit! We just finished ours in a 24 hour time period and thought it would be a catchy title.

Yarn: 1 skein Juniper Moon Farm Moonshine (40% Alpaca, 40% Wool, 20% silk; 197 yards) and 1 skein Ella Rae Silky Kid (76% super kid mohair, 24% silk; 219 yards). These two yarns are held together throughout the project. Or 190-200 yards of heavy worsted weight yarn with lots of drape.

Needles: US #8 16" circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 14 stitches = 4” in spiral stitch pattern. (About 4 stitches per 1” in stockinette stitch) Exact gauge is not crucial for this project!

Finished Size: 8” tall, 22” around.

Fiber & Vine owner, Kim Hamlin, designed this easy to knit cowl with elongated stitches, which draw attention to the changing textures and colors of this beautiful, single -ply yarn from Manos Del Uruguay.

Finished Measurements: 10 x 72” blocked (11½ x 64” before blocking)

Yarn: 2 Skeins Maxima by Manos del Uruguay, (100% extra fine merino 219 yards each) or 438 yards worsted weight, single ply yarn. Colors Shown: #M2020 Spirulina, #M2552 Foil.

Needles & Notions: US 10.5 (6.5mm) 13” straight needle or size needed to obtain gauge; spare 10.5 needle for 3 needle bind off; tapestry needle.

We normally love using circular needles for flat knitting, but found that the extra wrapped stitches got too tight on the cord, making the next row a bit tricky and slow to work. We highly recommend straight needles for this project, or at least for the extra wrapped sections.

Gauge: 16sts = 4” in garter stitch, blocked. An exact gauge is not crucial for this project.

FYI: In order to give the fabric lots of openness, Kim used a needle that was 3 sizes bigger than the yarn label recommended. She is also a very loose knitter, so if you tend to be on the tight side, you might want to use an 11.
