Improvisational Embroidery Class | April 21
$65.00

Sunday, April 21 | 10-3pm

Teacher: Kim Hamlin

Learn how to take simple embroidery stitches to the next level using repetition, layering, color blending and more. Often times in embroidery, we feel forced to stay on a straight line, or make a perfectly organized design… but this is quite the opposite! This class is about trying new things... stitching shapes without drawing them first, trying a color you despise, trading work with your neighbor, sticking with it AND letting go.

After years of practicing dance improvisation, I’ve discovered that the rules I use to generate movement, also make interesting prompts for stitching. What happens if you repeat something you don’t like, until you like it? Or fix a mistake by making it worse? Even if you’re not much of a sewing person, I invite you to come give improvisational stitching a try. You never know what you might discover!

Class materials included: Fabric, embroidery needles, embroidery hoop, embroidery floss (whatever is used during class).

Students, if you have them, please bring: pin cushion, scissors, thimble, and any fabric you might want to stitch on.

There will be a short break for lunch during this class. Students should bring a bag lunch or plan to grab food nearby.
