Exciting new activities for the Folk Art Studio @ Fiber & Vine!

If you are not already familiar with it, we have developed our basement as a community studio space where we hold affordable workshops for adults and kids with exceptional Maine artists and artisans sharing their expertise and knowledge. It has taken a few years, but we are now operational most of the year.

One of our new programs is a collaborative Careers in Art Series for Kids. We work with the Education Committee of the Western Maine Art Group to deliver innovative studio workshops that open career pathways in the visual arts and crafts to kids (two sessions for ages 6 – 8 and 9 and up). So far, we have successfully offered Be an Illustrator for a Day with Rochelle Draper and Kids Comics with Ryan Wing. For 2019, we have planned workshops in Graphic Design with Virginia Valdes, Projects in Fiber Arts with Kim Hamlin, Printmaking in Layers with Georgina Grenier, Exploring Architecture and Design with Judith Schneider and Nature Science and Drawing with Paula Curtis-Everett. We are thrilled that Norway Savings Bank, Oxford Federal Credit Union and The Rotary Club have all provided scholarship funds so all interested kids can enroll. We are committed that these kids workshops cost only $35 per student for the session, materials and snacks.

The primary limitation of the Folk Art Studio is that it is not heated. We have been using space heaters and programming only in spring, summer and fall. Even though we had won a Maine Arts Commission grant for paying teaching artists, and the above mentioned local supporters have provided scholarship dollars, we have been challenged to develop the physical facility. Since we are committed to keeping the workshop fees affordable and paying teaching artists for their time and expertise, we would like to ask you as a member of our community, for financial help in purchasing the propane heater.

If you are in a position to support our programming and the studio, we will be able to offer more year round opportunities for kids and adults. Please consider a one-time contribution of any amount that will go directly towards the studio facility.

Thank you for your consideration and involvement in our programs!
