$125 = $100 tuition + $25 materials to get you started.
Teacher: Kim Hamlin
Get ready to play and have fun with fiber! In this class, you will learn the basic techniques of nuno felting to make a one of a kind, reversible scarf. The end result is a soft, yet strong, material with unique texture and shine.
You will make a scarf very similar in style to those one shown here. One side will be one piece of silk in a single color, either hand dyed or white. You will then be able to layer different colors of wool and silk to design/embellish the top. At the end of class, Kim will demonstrate some simple embroidery stitching to add interest/texture to your finished work.
We will provide up to 3oz hand dyed merino wool, several pieces of hand dyed silk as well as the tools required for felting: 2 pool noodles, bubble wrap, tulle or netting, olive oil soap and a ball brause. (We will also provide yarns, curly locks and silk fibers for embellishing. We will have additional materials for sale in case anyone needs or wants more to complete their project or make another scarf. If you’d like to bring some of your own materials, please contact us first to make sure it will work!
3-4 large bath towels (not your best guest towels, colors from the wool and silk may run and stain)
Small hand towel
Small plastic tub for water, like a dish tub or mop bucket.
Notebook and pencil/pen
Apron (If you’d like)
Lunch and snacks!!
Wet felting is a physical process with a lot of standing. Wear comfy clothes and shoes, and bring layers to wear.
There will be a short break for lunch. You can bring your own food or visit one of the many restaurants nearby. We also have a fridge and microwave in the shop you are welcome to use.
